I cannot recommend staying at Iiyamakan enough. The amenities and cleanliness are both great, but what sets it apart is the service, which even for Japanese standards is unmatched. The host was extremely helpful, authentic, and friendly, going above and beyond to ensure I had a comfortable stay and an enjoyable time. The breakfasts each morning were huge, very tasty and diverse; each night the hot tub was clean and prepared; and when it was cold, the host made sure I understood how the heater worked, so I never got cold. He even packed me a lunch each day and offered to drive me to a sightseeing spot more than 30 minutes away, telling me about the local mountains and culture on the way. The authentic care and energy that was put into my stay made it one I wont forget. Definitely worth every penny.

Couldn't recommend this Ryokan enough. Host was extremely friendly and we both tried our best to communicate regardless of the language barrier. He brought us fresh fruit and Japanese snacks and made sure we had coffee ready for the next morning. The rooms were adequate temperature overnight and all shower facilities were great. Would stay here again without a doubt.
